Who We Are.
Who We Are
EASE T1D is the joint effort of two mothers Debbie George and Michelle Thornburg who have children with type 1 diabetes. Through our over 25 years of combined experience, we have come to recognize areas of significant need and have joined forces to apply our knowledge and passion in the effort to “EASE” Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) through education, awareness, support and empowerment.
EASE T1D understands the misconceptions about T1D and the lack of knowledge on the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We’ve witnessed the struggles our children face on a daily basis and have felt the fear T1D instills in the family of the diagnosed child.
This is why we are here. To have the complicated conversations with doctors, nurses, teachers, and school staff on what type 1 diabetes entails, and provide a better understanding of the disease to help ensure the safety of our children.
It is crucial the general public understands the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes and no longer labels them as one disease called “diabetes.” We strive to make these differences known through education.
Undiagnosed type 1 diabetes can result in Diabetic Ketoacidosis, (DKA) which can lead to life altering complications and/or death. We advocate educating parents on the signs and symptoms of T1D at all well baby/child care visits in an effort to prevent DKA, as well as bring education on this disease with the help of our school districts.
